Earlier this year we set out to rebuild Team Employment’s candidate management platform. The goal was straightforward: a system tuned to screen applicants efficiently, treat every candidate equally, and keep their information properly safeguarded. Not an off-the-shelf ATS bent into shape — something built around how we actually work.
One piece of that build was a messaging module — a way to create, reuse and store message templates without wrestling with clunky form builders or repetitive copy-pasting.
It worked so well internally that it exposed an obvious gap elsewhere: LinkedIn.
Anyone in recruitment knows the rhythm. You write a similar message dozens of times a week — a first hello, a warm thank you, a request for a referee, an invite to connect. The wording barely changes; only the name, the company, the headline. Doing that by hand, every time, is the kind of repetitive task that quietly eats a working day.
So we looked at what already existed. Most LinkedIn messaging tools fell into one of two camps: complex template builders that expected you to learn placeholder syntax and manage templates in an offline editor, or large all-in-one suites that solved the problem but came bundled with signups, subscriptions, and features we’d never touch.
We wanted something simpler than both. Type a message once, save it, reuse it — with the right details filled in automatically from the profile in front of you. Nothing more.
We couldn’t find it, so we built it.
Introducing knowhash
knowhash is a free Chrome extension for LinkedIn messaging. Open a profile, type /, and your saved templates appear instantly — with fields like name and company already merged in from the page you’re on.

- No external data. Every template stays in your own browser.
- No CRM required. It reads the LinkedIn profile you’re already looking at.
- Free to use, with a small starter set of templates ready out of the box.
It’s a deliberately lightweight tool — built to solve one specific, everyday frustration well, rather than to be a platform.
A byproduct worth sharing
knowhash grew directly out of the work we did rebuilding our own candidate platform this year. It wasn’t the plan going in, but once the messaging module existed for our internal systems, extending the same thinking to LinkedIn was a natural next step — and a genuinely useful one, given how much of our day involves exactly this kind of messaging.
We’re sharing it because we think other recruiters, sales teams, and anyone who spends serious time messaging on LinkedIn will find it just as useful as we have.
